Technical & Academic Editing

Technical Editing ($30/hr)

Technical editing focuses on clarifying complex scientific, technical, and jargon-filled documents, making them more readable and therefore accessible to wider audiences. Does your SOP make sense to your end-users? Is the procedural manual you’ve written digestible by everyone on the team (technicians/engineers, business analysts, HR reps, senior leadership)?

You may think that the jargon you use is intrinsic to your process and therefore must be included. It’s not. The central tenant of plain language is the idea that anyone should be able pick up your document and understand its purpose, structure, key points, and instructions quickly, easily, and without supplemental materials.

This type of edit is right for you if you’re working on:

  • Standard Operating Procedures
  • Employee/Company Handbooks
  • Systems Requirement Docs
  • Release Notes
  • Scientific Reports
  • Systems/Network Analyses
  • Policy Memorandums
  • Procedural Manuals
  • Technical Articles
  • Legal Documents

 Academic Editing ($3/page)

As a University/College student, ensuring that your essay, thesis, or dissertation is error-free can be the difference between a passing grade and an A+, post-graduate funding or losing out on that research grant, or completing your Master’s or PhD research requirement on time versus having to resubmit your dissertation for your defense.

I offer editing and formatting services for academic essays, theses, and dissertations, throughout your writing process. Do you need someone to review your outline and give notes on the proposed direction of your essay? Are you looking for an editor to go through and comment on the organization and structure of your arguments and sources? Do you just need someone to review your final version and proofread it before the deadline?

I work with MLA and APA style guides to ensure that your work follows the rules of grammar and your institution’s preferred format and layout. I also work with international and ESL students to correct their papers.

I also edit admissions essays for style and substance to ensure that you’re meeting the specific prompt requirements while also injecting your personality and life experiences into your writing sample.
